How it Started
I've always been the "computer guy" in my family. Whenever my mom ran into a problem with her PC, she'd call me. I'd explain how to enable remote access so I could help, but she'd forget the steps each time, and we'd repeat the same routine again and again.
Then one day she asked me "Can't you just create a step-by-step guide with screenshots and an arrow on a screenshot showing me exactly what I should see and exactly what I should click on to get this done?" It was a great idea, so I gave it a try. I created a simple, step-by-step guide with screenshots for every step. She loved it and from then on, she could follow it every time without any help, successfully giving me remote access to her PC whenever she needed help.
This idea of creating clear, simple, step-by-step, visual guides showing what someone should see, where to click, and why stuck with me. For years, I worked as a Qlik Sense Server Admin, data analyst, and Business Intelligence Developer spending countless hours building, fixing, and automating Qlik environments. I realized I was sitting on a mountain of hard-earned knowledge that could make life easier not just for seasoned admins, but for anyone who wanted to learn how to deploy, configure, and manage Qlik Sense servers from the ground up.
I started asking:
-
What if I created the same kind of visual, step-by-step guides for Qlik Sense server administration so anyone could learn how to deploy and manage a Qlik Sense server?
-
What if I shared the PowerShell scripts and other tools I've built to automate server administration and showed exactly how to use them, so others wouldn’t have to spend months reinventing the same tools?
-
What if I made myself available for direct support so students could reach out with questions and get real answers, instead of hoping for a reply from an online forum?
That’s where howdash began.
The Idea
Bringing it to Life
I got to work and started creating step-by-step guides showing how I build, configure, secure, and administer Qlik Sense servers.
I shared the PowerShell scripts I built and use to automate key tasks like Qlik Sense server backups and PostgreSQL configuration during new Qlik Sense installations. I built guides on upgrading Qlik Sense and PostgreSQL, and on using backups to recover a server if something goes wrong. I even created step-by-step, visual guides showing how I build an entire Windows Server lab domain to host Qlik Sense servers for development and testing.
Today at howdash, you'll find over 180 visual guides across four courses, packed with more than 2,500 screenshots showing exactly how I build and manage Qlik Sense servers. Every guide is designed so you can follow along step-by-step. You'll also get the PowerShell scripts and other tools I use to work faster, automate repetitive tasks, and keep systems running reliably.
If you've ever thought, "I wish someone would just show me how this actually works" you're exactly who howdash was built for. My goal is simple - to keep creating visual, practical, real-world resources that make your job easier and your environment stronger.
Hi there 👋 my name is Mikhail Bespartochnyy. I'm the creator of howdash. I've spent the last six years building and managing Qlik Sense environments for organizations across different industries. My background combines Qlik Administration, Business Intelligence, and Data Analytics, helping teams design systems that stay stable, well-structured, and easy to maintain.
Before starting howdash, I worked at Susquehanna International Group, where I supported Qlik deployments across global operations. Those years taught me what it takes to keep complex BI systems running smoothly, from installation and upgrades to automation and recovery.
At howdash, I've turned everything I learned in the field into clear, visual guides that make Qlik Sense administration easier to understand and apply. Each course is built on practical experience and shows the same methods I've used to build and manage Qlik Sense environments that run reliably day after day.
My goal with howdash is to make that knowledge accessible and approachable for others. Whether you're setting up your first Qlik Sense server or maintaining an existing one, I want to give you the same clarity and structure that took me years to build.
