Deploy and Configure Qlik Sense
Overview
Periodically, initial release of Qlik Sense server require installation of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (MVCR). I’ve searched the web and could not find a reliable reason as to why some versions of Qlik Sense need MVCR and some don’t. In any case, whatever the reason may be, the important thing to know is that you may run into issues installing Qlik Sense if Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable is not installed.
If you try to install Qlik Sense and see installation failed message like this one:
The likely cause is missing MVCR on your server.
Which Qlik Sense Versions Need Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable?
I tested 17 Qlik Sense versions going back as far as November 2020 and only five versions require installation of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable to resolve the installation failure. Here’s the complete list of tested versions and test results for reference:
If you’re installing one of Qlik Sense versions that doesn’t need Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable installed, feel free to skip this guide.

01. Check If Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Is Installed
Step 01.
Launch Explorer window and go to This PC.
Step 02.
Click Uninstall or change a program to bring up list of all installed apps and features on your server.
Step 03.
Look for Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable app like this one:
02. Check Architecture & Download Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable
You'll need to download Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for appropriate CPU architecture. We'll start by checking which CPU architecture your server is running on and then download the installation file for appropriate architecture.
Step 01.
Launch Explorer window and go to This PC.
Step 02.
Click on System properties option in Computer tab to bring up information about your server.
Step 03.
In About settings window, look for System type specification to see which architecture your server is on.
Step 04.
Go to Latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable version page.
Step 05.
Click the link for appropriate architecture to download installation file for Visual C++ Redistributable.
03. Install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable
Step 01.
Go to Downloads folder, or wherever you saved the installation file.
Step 02.
Right-click the installation file and select Open option.
Step 03.
Check the I agree to the license terms and conditions if you do.
Step 04.
Click Install button to begin installation of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable app.
Step 05.
Click Yes on User Account Control popup window.
Step 06.
Once installation process completes, click the Close button.
