Enable Hyper-V on Windows 11
Windows Server for Qlik Sense Admins
Overview
In this guide, we will learn how to get Hyper-V enabled on a Windows 11 PC so we could use it to build your virtual Qlik Sense server lab environment.
Windows Roles & Features
Windows operating systems have some pieces of software that Microsoft calls roles and features. Some of the roles and features like Microsoft Print to PDF, for example, are turned on by default and many others are turned off.
Hyper-V is one of the roles that is turned off by default. We need Hyper-V to install virtual machines and this guide will show you how to turn it on.
Three Requirements
To turn on Hyper-V, there are only three prerequisites that your Windows 11 PC must meet:
You must have one of the following versions of Windows installed on your PC:
Windows 11 Pro
Windows 11 Enterprise
Windows 11 Education
You must have 64-bit operating system.
You must have virtualization enabled in BIOS settings.
Check out this video that has a very good walkthrough of how to check which version of Windows OS you have installed and how to upgrade to one of the versions listed above if needed.

Summary
All Set!
Now that you have Hyper-V installed, next steps are to create and configure a virtual switch that will be used by the virtual machines to communicate with each other. Steps that show how to do that are covered in the next lesson. I'll see you there!
P.S. Below are some useful references. First reference is a Microsoft documentation showing steps for upgrading your version of Windows.
Second reference is a Trello template board that I put together. It contains the entire set of steps for the virtual Windows Server lab environment buildout process. If you prefer a more interactive experience as you go along these steps, I recommend checking out the Trello board.
